Highlights: Travelers to L.A. have long complained that the Westside has gotten a bit staid (most of the new hotel action in recent years has centered on Santa Monica and the Sunset Strip). That's changing with the December 2007 opening of Thompson Beverly Hills, sister to SoHo's 60 Thompson. The former Best Western is now a strikingly hip study in modernism, after a major redo by Dodd Mitchell Design.
Interiors feature mirrors and dramatic lighting; king platform beds have headboards with mood lights and linens by Sferra. While solace seekers might be put off by the Thompson's sometimes raucous vibe, nightlife lovers have everything they need: sushi at an outpost of New York's BONDST and the bi-level rooftop bar, pool, and fitness center, which opens in June.
