A $2.9 billion class action settlement charge involving the company's former management team contributed largely to the $1.7 billion loss in 2007. And the company also had $489 million in costs associated with the breakup of Tyco into three separate public entities.

The pain isn't over yet. Tyco said it will continue to incur separation costs related to debt refinancing, tax restructuring, professional services and employee-related costs.
