The weakness of the U.S. dollar caused EADS to launch "Power8," a restructuring program at its Airbus division, to streamline costs primarily by cutting jobs.

But ambitious new passenger aircraft offerings suffered because of it, as fewer employees hindered production. Soaring oil prices and increasing demand for costly titanium didn't help much either.
