Silverado Vineyards
Silverado Vineyards
Stags Leap District, Calif.

Owner
Former Disney CEO Ron Miller and his wife Diane, Walt Disney's daughter, have been in Napa longer than most corporate converts; the couple first acquired lands in the area in 1976, and now own six vineyards on more than 400 acres. The Millers started Silverado Vineyards in 1981, taking the name from Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Silverado Squatters," a brief account by the author of his time in the California wine country.

Recent hit
Silverado scored big last October when it released its 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Solo ($80), a full-bodied red with "aromas of plum, cocoa powder, and cherry cola," according to the winemaker. Robert Parker bestowed the release with a rating of 92, or "outstanding," and Wine & Spirits Review gave it a 91, calling it "too vast and extracted to grasp all in one taste."
