One year after launching its Air Max basketball shoe, Nike announced that it sold over one million pairs - the company called the sneaker "a $40 million business in itself." Part of the shoe's appeal came from its controversial promotion: When Nike used the Beatles' "Revolution" to market the shoe, it became the first - and last - time a Beatles song appeared in an advertisement. Apple Records, the Beatles' recording company, sued the band's U.S. record label over Nike's use of the song. The case was settled confidentially, but Nike stopped using the tune.
