At the market, thieves are rampant in the crowds - and a typical consequence for failing to produce owed money is death. But the EarthFruits team feels comfortable there when they are accompanied by Sandoval Alves da Silva, who grew up on these docks and is now very well respected.
Sandoval, like many other locals, owns a fruit processing plant, but didn't have the quality controls the plant needed to grow. EarthFruits stepped in and started buying small quantities that were closely monitored for quality. Then, da Silva reinvested the profits into his plant to make necessary improvements. With each improvement, the plant became closer to being a self-sufficient factory. EarthFruits now has an exclusivity agreement with the plant.
