Bagazo's briquettes haven't yet caught fire

Not much has happened over the past year for Bagazo, an MIT student startup that planned this year to start selling low-cost charcoal briquettes to the citizens of Haiti.

Bagazo's plant-based product, aimed at a nation where smoke from conventional charcoal cooking fuel has caused widespread respiratory infections, burns cleaner and longer than wood, and the company claims it's cheaper to manufacture. Bagazo's founder, Jules Walter, planned on ramping up production when he graduated last spring. Instead, he decided to earn an MBA at Harvard Business School, where he will continue to refine his technology and finish up his market research. - Maggie Overfelt
