Prius
2010 MSRP: Starts at $22,000
Units sold in 2008: 158,884*

The best-selling car of its kind in the United States and Japan, the Prius has become synonymous with the word "hybrid," making it a status symbol in the green movement. When it launched in 2000, the Prius was the world's first mass-produced gas-electric hybrid.

Now in its third generation, the popularity of the Prius -- whose gasoline engine and electric battery-powered motor can get up to 51 miles per gallon -- has helped Toyota sell more than one million hybrids in the United States.
