Toyota's full-size pickup truck premiered in 2000 in an attempt to compete with bigger American trucks like the Ford F-150. It soon won accolades, and a larger version of the vehicle, assembled entirely in the United States and replete with bulging fenders, was released in 2007, becoming the best-selling foreign truck. But sales dipped as fuel costs rose and the economy tanked.
