Small car: Honda Insight
Sticker price: $19,800 - $21,300
Mileage: 43 mpg Hwy, 40 mpg City
Consumer Reports recommended: No

Despite its stellar dependability, the Insight didn't earn a recommendation by Consumer Reports because it didn't perform well enough in the magazine's performance tests.

The Toyota Yaris, which ranked second in reliability, was also not recommended because of a poor performance score.

The top-ranked car to actually earn a recommendation was the Honda Fit.

NEXT: Family car: Toyota Prius
