Fond du Lac, French for "bottom, or foot, of the lake," is situated on the southern tip of Lake Winnebago -- the largest inland lake in Wisconsin.
Life in Fond du Lac centers around water sports during the warmer months and ice fishing in the winter months. Lakeside Park is a large recreational area right on the lake that provides access to picnic areas, playgrounds, baseball diamonds, a marina, and boat launch ramps for residents. The park is also home to the annual family-fun Walleye Weekend, usually scheduled for some time in mid-June.
Fond du Lac is one hour away from Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison, giving residents access to bigger cities. But Fond du Lac also has its own downtown area with shops, galleries and restaurants.--C.C.
