History books say that when Mark Twain first saw the densely-forested wilderness of Redding, he exclaimed, "How beautiful it all is! I did not think it could be as beautiful as this."

Twain, who built a house in Redding in the early 1900s, is one of many famous people who have resided, or still live, in this affluent, bucolic town that's surrounded by hills, meadows and historic and modern homes. Other celebrity locals include Mary Travers of the 1960's folk group Peter, Paul and Mary and movie director/producer Barry Levinson.

Redding today is primarily a bedroom community that's well connected to major corporate hubs of Stamford, Westchester County and Manhattan.
