Hundreds of shoppers gathered at the Toys R Us flagship store in New York's Times Square, some arriving as early as 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving to get started on holiday shopping.

The toy giant advertised it would offer 170 "doorbuster" deals at midnight, including a free $50 gift card with the purchase of an iPod touch. At 5 a.m., Toys R Us planned to offer 50 more "doorbuster" deals.
