Kevin Dwinnell 45, with his wife Bethany, 41, and daughter Leah, 23 months.

Average weekly savings: $30-$35

"When my wife and I adopted our daughter we decided that we wanted to spend as much time as possible with her. I recently left the corporate world to take on a job with an Internet company that allows me to work on a flexible schedule. Both my wife and I knew our salaries were going to be compressed and we would have to watch every penny. I started doing some research online and came across a site that talked about 'the drugstore game,' where you pool your coupons and wait for things to go on sale. I get a lot of our staple products this way. Even though we are cutting back it doesn't feel like we are because we have these little treats we give ourselves. I will get stuff that I wouldn't normally get as long as I don't have to spend anything out of pocket."

His strategy: "I generally do all my couponing in one fell swoop. I go to places like lifehacker.com and moneysavingmon.com to track sale items and combine them with coupons I save from circulars and the Sunday paper. All in all it takes me about an hour. I look for manager's specials during the week and use my coupons when things are marked down."

NEXT: Strategy: Be diligent
