Location: Sun City Grand
Price: $979,000

The owner of this home in one of Sun City's upscale communities bought it for $820,000 in 2006, redid the backyard, and listed it at $924,000 -- then raised the price.

An astonishing 61% of Sun City residents have no mortgage at all. Those prepared to spend nearly $1 million today can have two bedrooms, a patio suitable for a presidential fundraiser, and a stunning fairway vista.

Prices in the famed retirement community have remained more stable than the Phoenix real estate market as a whole. One reason: Sun City doesn't have nearly as many foreclosures, which tempt buyers with irresistible discounts.
