Miami: Surfside
Price: $460,000

There are deals in quieter neighborhoods north of downtown Miami, like Bal Harbour, with its posh shopping mall, or the city of West Palm Beach.

This 70-year-old renovated one-story in Surfside (just south of Bal Harbour) is a classic example of the real estate boom and bust. Its buyers paid $617,000 in 2005 at the top of the market, then spent $100,000 on upgrades. But they haven't been able to sell it since 2007, when they first listed it for $649,000.
