The auction of Halsey Minor
Once a driving Silicon Valley tycoon, Minor is now selling his $30 million art collection, as he battles lawsuits and loan defaults.
Artist: Richard Prince
Estimate: $5 million to $7 million
Twentieth Century pop culture has often eroticized nurses, as Richard Prince reflects in his "Nurse" series. "Nurse in Hollywood #4" is inspired by a 1960s novel in which a producer "discovers" a nursing student and forces her to choose between healing or becoming a star. While his recent entrepreneurial endeavors have foundered, CNet co-founder Halsey Minor's art collection is likely among his smartest investments, with works from world-renowned contemporary artists like Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Ed Ruscha. Facing legal battles with Christie's and Sotheby's, Minor took his collection to Manhattan-based art dealership Phillips de Pury where it will be auctioned off.
