When Prince William recently proposed to his girlfriend Kate Middleton, he presented her with his mother Princess Diana's famous blue sapphire engagement ring.

Guess what? Searches for sapphire rings suddenly took off on Google, shooting up 70% in December.

The Natural Sapphire Company, a 70-year-old gem cutting company that specializes in fine sapphires, said it has been receiving a number of phone calls and emails inquiring about blue sapphires and the design of Princess Diana's engagement ring. Last month, the company started offering a reproduction setting of Princess Diana's engagement ring.
