First job: Marketing specialist

Second job: Obituary writer

Why I do it: Since my husband lost his job in December 2008 and I lost mine in April 2009, we have done everything to pay bills. Now I work full time as a marketing specialist for a nonprofit but it's a significant pay cut from my former full-time job.

I needed another source of income and it may sound morbid but I work part time on the weekends as an obituary writer for the local newspaper.

I work Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the newspaper's office. I average around 25-30 obituaries on a weekend. The extra money I bring has become our savings.

I won't lie and say it's easy working seven days a week, but right now it's necessary until my husband can secure full-time employment. We've had to put off trips, buying a house, starting a family and even getting regular haircuts, but we are now saving for our future.
