Youngstown once had the highest paid factory workers in the nation, but the steel mills that propelled the local economy are almost all gone now.

All those high-paying jobs meant many nice houses were built in the area. Take this brick split level. It's got three bedrooms, two baths and nearly 1,800 square feet of interior space. There are formal living and dining rooms and a family room. The kitchen has been updated and the overall condition is very good.

Some recent developments around the city may help revive the housing market. The unemployment rate has been dropping -- it fell to 10.6% in September from 11.9% in June -- and the new Chevrolet Cruze is being manufactured right outside Youngstown.
