Bridgeport, the state's largest city, is an old, blue-color industrial city close by some of the wealthiest suburbs in the United States. Even though home prices are high, many city neighborhoods have some very affordable homes.

The affordability factor here has improved compared with a few years ago, when barely a quarter of area homes were within the means of people earning the median household income.

The local economy is solid with an unemployment rate a point below the national average. Connecticut draws strength from many different industries and also functions as a bedroom community for many high salaried earners who commute to Manhattan.

This picturesque Dutch colonial is priced a bit higher than the typical Bridgeport home. It's in really fine condition and has lots of new mechanicals and spacious rooms.
