Unlike many local business operators, WhiteSandVacationRentals.com owners Trevor and Sarah Ladner have had no problem collecting compensation for their lost sales. Every time a customer cancels their vacation rental, the Ladners request a letter explaining the reason. That documentation helps in the claims process.
"Financially, because BP has been covering the loss to the revenue, that has calmed our concern a bit," Trevor says.
But the couple is still frustrated to be losing sales at all. They feel the media have overplayed the oil spill's effects: "It is unnecessary," Sarah says, pointing to Destin's clean beaches.
