Designer runner-up: Shigeru Miyamoto
Senior Managing Director, Nintendo

Miyamoto is singlehandedly responsible for the modern videogame juggernaut. The hitmaker, who once aspired to be a puppeteer, is responsible for designing many of Nintendo's most beloved brands: Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, even Wii Fit. Miyamoto not only thinks outside the box but resizes its dimensions. His most recent game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, toys with gravity and physics in ways few have before, further cementing the belief that while copycat knockoffs of Miyamoto's works are inevitable, none approaches the accessibility and greatness of the originals. --J.P.M.
