Big and easy (on gas) - Ford Flex
Sticker price: $29,200 - $45,310
Mileage: 17 City / 24 Hwy

The Flex hasn't been one of Ford's more popular products, which is a shame. To make matters worse, a lot of industry observers thought the new Ford Explorer would render it pointless. After all, both are three-row car-based SUVs.

But the Flex is longer and roomier, has a more comfortable ride, and it's easier to get in and out of. The bottom line is that the Flex fills the role of a minivan perfectly without actually being one.

Get it with the more powerful EcoBoost engine and you get impressive acceleration with little cost in fuel economy. The mileage figures shown are for the two-wheel-drive non-EcoBoost version.
