Hyundai Elantra
Price: $14,830 - $19,980
Mileage: 29 City / 40 Hwy

No special packages here. Hyundai makes a big deal of the fact that the Elantra, just the regular Elantra, gets 40 mpg on the highway without asking buyers to pay for a special "fuel economy" package or an upgraded model.

To make its fuel economy numbers, the Elantra uses lightweight materials, aerodynamics, sophisticated fuel injection software and a special friction-reducing crankshaft design.
