The Transit connect was also more expensive to buy and operate than the Nissan, Bloomberg said, and city officials were also concerned about having taxi cabs shipped from as far away as Turkey.
Despite losing this contest, New Yorkers may well see Ford Transit Connect taxi cabs. The Nissan vans won't enter service until 2013 and other cabs will still be used up through 2018. So Ford is getting is getting its Transit Connect cabs, already in service in other cities, ready to be used in New York, too, as soon as possible.
