1973 Citroën GS
Leave it to the French and Citroën to do something completely different. The GS was more notable for its hydropneumatic suspension, but it was also the slipperiest car of its time. A fifth door or hatchback was originally rejected as being too utilitarian but was added to a later model. The spare tire sits on top of the engine, resulting in an unusually large trunk.
