The chip giant was late getting into tablets. But a booming market for microprocessors used in cloud computing servers more than made up for any shortfall in 2010--driving a 162% jump in Intel's earnings. It highlighted what critics have missed about the world's biggest chipmaker: even though it's not in the iPad, its chips power many of the games and tasks used on tablets.
