Canon PowerShot S95
Canon PowerShot S95
Price: $399
Weight: 6.0 ounces

What's great: Forget megapixels -- The new camera buzzword is "aperture," or the size of the opening that lets light pass through the lens.

A low aperture number means you can take great shots in dim light; the Canon's widest lens aperture is 2.0, far below the average camera's 2.8. The S95 is also super-lightweight and captures accurate colors.

What's not: You can't zoom when shooting video.

Bottom line: If you want a small camera, the S95 is a solid little chunk of technology that snaps terrific photos.
