Even in the investing deep freeze of 2008, Schwab drew new customers: Its account base grew from 7.4 million in 2008 to 7.7 million in 2009, and 8 million in 2010. During the same time, client assets increased from $1.13 trillion to $1.57 trillion. It also maintained the highest customer-satisfaction scores among its peers.*
