Martin, 57, has management chops, and he's successfully taken two companies -- in different industries -- public. He steered telecom-gear maker ONI Systems' IPO in 2000 and Pacific Biosciences' public offering in 2010. And he was a founder of ONI, so he understands the entrepreneurial mentality.
