Oracle's CEO managed an astonishing trick: He tops both the highest-paid and lowest-paid tech executives list. His salary is just $1 a year, but his other compensation -- a $13.3 million cash bonus this year and $62.7 million in stock options -- is among the highest for a top executive in any industry.
Also included in Ellison's compensation is $1.5 million worth of home security technology and staff. In a regulatory filing, Oracle says it requires extraordinary security measures for its CEO "because of the importance of Mr. Ellison to Oracle."
Though Ellison paid for the installation and maintenance of the security equipment, Oracle takes care of the annual costs of Ellison's security detail.
In other words, don't mess with Larry.
You don't have to work at Oracle or Apple to be among the top-paid executives in the technology industry, but it helps.
