John Osterweis' investing philosophy can't be distilled into a single term. In many respects the founder of the Osterweis Fund is a traditional value guy. He swoons for cash- and dividend-generating stocks that have fallen from favor. But Osterweis, 69, also focuses on growth. His hybrid approach has yielded 6.1% average annual returns over 10 years, vs. 4.1% for the S&P 500. Osterweis thinks Viacom has just the mix of qualities he's seeking.
