Rent or buy from online discounters like Chegg.com. General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry, third edition, went for just $102 used at Chegg, vs. $146 new.

If you don't need to scribble notes in the margin, download or rent e-books from Amazon.com (about 25% to 50% cheaper than buying new).
