Redbox
Redbox
Thank Redbox for the $1 a night movie rental. What started as an experimental subsidiary of Coinstar in 2004 is now one of the company's biggest money makers. The business saw sales climb 40% last quarter, with $485 million coming from 35,400 DVD kiosks in supermarkets, pharmacies, and convenience stores around the country. Expect the Redbox business to expand even further thanks to the $100 million acquisition of NCR Corp., the company behind the Blockbuster Express brand, and a new streaming service in partnership with Verizon, due out the second half of this year.
