Beauty at a low(er) price

maserati ghibli quarter

This is the new Maserati Ghibli (pronounced "gib-lee") and I'll bet it doesn't cost as much as you think it does. Don't get me wrong here, it's not cheap, but prices for this lovely deep blue assemblage of curves and chrome start at a mere $72,000. (Actually, $65,000 if you want your curves and chrome with less horsepower.)

Now, that's without all the options. Throw in performance-tuned suspension, steering and brakes, that lustrous paint color and a few other things and the price gets to within a short hop of $90,000. (If you want the "non-goofy-sounding name" option, you'll be spending $102,000 for the larger Quattraporte.)

OK, it's expensive. Still, it keeps itself inside of five figures, which is cheap for a Maserati. It's really a competitor -- albeit a more expensive one --- to cars like the BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-class but with a distinctly different flavor. The Ghibli's not a perfect car and not everyone will like it. But I'm not sure everyone is supposed to.
