Ford made this car to "homologate" its big 429 engine for Nascar racing. Automakers were required to sell a certain number of cars to the general public -- to "homologate" them -- before they could race them as "stock cars" on the track. But the Boss 429 really made its reputation on the drag strip, not the Nascar track.
