2008: CEO, Citigroup (C)

Pandit became the CEO of Citigroup in early 2008, shortly before the crisis erupted. He joined the bank in late 2006 when the bank purchased his hedge fund Old Lane for $800 million. By mid 2008, Citigroup shut the hedge fund down. Citigroup was widely considered one of the weakest of the large banks in the immediate wake of Lehman's bankruptcy and was one of the larger recipients of Fed funds.

Now: investor, board member

Pandit abruptly resigned as Citigroup's CEO in late 2012, following, among other things, an early 2012 shareholder rebuke of his pay package. Pandit has since jumped into peer-to-peer lending. He recently invested in a startup called CommonBond that helps business school students find investors to back their student loans. Pandit also purchased a stake in an Indian financial firm, JM Financial.
