People who live in Rye can enjoy the city's waterfront in a variety of ways -- on a boat, in a downtown restaurant with great oysters and a view, or from one of the area's public beaches or private beach clubs.
Residents may work in Stamford, about 20 minutes by train, or in New York City about 40 minutes away. But they all come home to the small-town feel of Rye, where kids paint store windows for Halloween, and adults work off the winter in the Rye Derby 5-mile, 5K, or 1-mile fun run in April.
The schools, like many in the area, are top-rate. The local high school is ranked 11th in the state and is one of the top 100 in the country, which can make Rye's high price of housing worth it.Subscribe to Money Magazine
