Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty all want Republicans to support a hike in the minimum wage. But $10.10 may go too far for their liking.
Rick Santorum, another former Republican presidential hopeful, has recently come out in support of raising the minimum wage.
"Let's not make this argument that we're for the blue collar guy but we're against any minimum wage hike ever. It just makes no sense," he said on MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd" earlier this week.
Raising the minimum wage is popular with voters, with even 42% of Republicans saying they back the plan to raise the federal rate to $10.10 specifically. (Others support a smaller rise.)
"This is one I don't get," Santorum said.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins has tried to get both parties to meet in the middle. For her, the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 is too low, but $10.10 may be too high. Democrats continue to push for $10.10. So far, a compromise doesn't seem like it's in the cards.
