Cheap imports and competition from high-volume sellers like Zappos have kept shoe prices relatively stable over the past five years, says retail analyst Nikoleta Panteva.

While designer lines still charge a premium, you'll now find more private label options at retailers like Macy's (M, Fortune 500), say experts.

Sellers can offer these shoes for less, since they don't need to cut in a middleman or spend money on ads.
