Rutherford County's job growth engine is revving up. Located in the center of the state -- and the country -- it's a day's road trip away from three quarters of the nation's major markets thanks to three interstate highways.

Nissan recently added a third shift and 900 jobs to its Smyrna facility. Meanwhile, shovel-ready sites with utilities and infrastructure are helping newcomers including Saks Fifth Avenue and Amazon.com with their new fulfillment and distribution centers.

Almost 5,300 new jobs were created in Rutherford in 2012. This year, automotive supplier NHK Seating of America invested $6.8 million in its Murfreesboro facility. The space will house robots that manufacture automotive seat structures, and 94 jobs for humans are in the works too. Produce supplier Taylor Farms is investing $5.9 million and adding 170 jobs.
