Lee County's proximity to Atlanta and homegrown engineers at nearby Auburn University are making it an attractive place to do business.

Automotive engineering firm APR is expanding its Opelika operation and adding 50 new employees. Dietary supplement maker Pharmavite recently opened a site in Northeast Opelika Industrial Park, employing 245 people.

Auburn Technology Park West is also home to several growing manufacturers. Donghee America announced plans to make automotive fuel tanks in Auburn and has already begun hiring leaders of the operation, which is expected to employ 80.

GE Aviation opened a facility that will make high pressure turbine airfoils. Fifty employees are expected to be hired this year, with another 250 on the way when the plant hits full capacity.
