With an elevation exceeding 1,000 feet, it's no wonder Maricopa County business keeps rising. General Motors is planning to hire 1,000 employees for a new information technology innovation center there, while financial services firm USAA is expanding its northern Phoenix campus to accommodate 1,000 new employees.

Web-hosting company GoDaddy is building a new facility in Arizona State University Research Park and expects to hire hundreds of engineers, developers and customer service reps.

ZocDoc opened an office in the county to house service and sales pros. Sixty-six new workers this year and 650 within three years will help make scheduling doctor's appointments online a snap.
