The dog watcher

holiday rover

Man's best friend should never go neglected.

And with startup Rover, they'll never have to. The predecessor to competitor DogVacay, Rover is an online database of dog lovers, whether it's pet owners looking for a dog walker or a petless soul who wants to make some extra cash by hanging out with a pup.

It's free for dog owners and the dogless to sign up. The average nightly rate will run a dog owner between $25 and $35. (Rover takes a small percentage of the sitter's fee.)

The Seattle-based startup operates in 9,000 U.S. cities with over 25,000 vetted "sitters." Rover reviews every sitter's profile and offers background checks for $5.25 (those with approved background checks receive a badge on their Rover page). They also offer free insurance and 24/7 emergency support.
