Ford in the Fast Lane
By Jesse Freund

(Business 2.0) – The original GT-40 propelled Ford to the top three spots at Le Mans in 1966, spearheading a sporty makeover for the then-staid auto giant. After losing $6.4 billion in 2001 and 2002, Ford hopes to spark a similar revival in early July with an updated GT. The new car has a top speed of more than 200 mph and a $140,000 sticker price, but only 1,500 will be built per year. That won't do much for Ford's balance sheet, but the automaker hopes the GT's halo effect will cast its glow over the five new passenger vehicles it will roll out this fall.
