RFID's Big Year

(Business 2.0) – Investors could see the first fruits of the RFID revolution when Symbol Technologies—which recently swallowed up RFID chipmaker Matrics—announces its fourth-quarter results by mid-March. Both Wal-Mart and the Department of Defense began requiring their biggest vendors to affix the wireless tracking tags to all shipments as of the start of the year, and Matrics has been working overtime to supply the suppliers. The RFID equipment market promises to be huge; analysts say it could top $2 billion by year's end.
