COMPANIES, EVENTS, PRODUCTS, AND PEOPLE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THIS MONTH.

(Business 2.0) – If Michael Robertson has his way, every major website on the planet will be lining up to become your next phone-service provider. In early July, SIP-phone, the latest startup from the man behind MP3.com and Linspire, will launch a beta version of Gizmo Project to license technology to companies that want to sell voice-over-IP services under their own brand names. Much like peer-to-peer-based Skype, these services will offer free PC-to-PC calling and charge less than 2.5 cents per minute for regular calls, with SIPphone and the websites splitting the revenue. Robertson also plans to offer add-ons such as the ability to select hold music, record conversations as audio files, or view satellite maps of callers' locations.
