The world's largest aerospace company is getting its wings clipped by the economic downturn. Profits in 2008 nosedived to $2.7 billion, a 34% drop, as the company faced aircraft cancellations by customers.

In other signs of the not-so-friendly skies, Boeing has suffered production delays on its new 787 Dreamliner, a mid-sized, twin-engine jet, and grappled with a two-month machinist strike that ate into fourth quarter earnings. - S.K.
