State Farm has suffered from a long string of natural disasters that have driven up its underwriting losses. The Bloomington, IL-based company is still dealing with the lasting effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, recently losing a federal court case involving claims related to the super-storm's aftermath. The company did manage to moderately increase sales 1.5% to $65. 2 billion. Its focus now: growing its customer base, particularly consumers in their 20s and 30s, who have flocked to the likes of Geico and Progressive.
